The holiday season is approaching, so the busy travel season is upon us. I have a seven-hour-long car ride ahead of me next week for Thanksgiving. I have a few tips and tricks I did during my last self-road trip that helped me survive the long drive alone. Maybe you will use these tips on your next road trip this holiday season.
The biggest thing I would do is pack a snack bag. The last thing you want to do is be hungry on the road trip and not have a fast-food stop on the way. Especially since I am a gluten-free, dairy-free girly, it is hard for me to find a fast-food restaurant that will accompany my needs. Having a snack bag has always been helpful to me, and I always make sure I pack more than I will need just in case.
A good podcast or a playlist is one of the most helpful things on a road trip to make the time go by faster. I like to make my own playlists on Spotify so that I will enjoy all the songs on the playlist. Podcasts are also a great way to make the time fly by. Some of my current favorite podcasts are below:
- Pretty Basic with Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz (a personal favorite)
- Hot Mess with Alix Earle
- The Broski Report with Brittany Broski
- Sweet Boys
- Crime Junkie
This is a simple one, but people also easily forget about it. You have to make sure you have enough hydration for the road trip. I know sometimes people don’t want to drink water, so they don’t have to make multiple bathroom stops, but staying hydrated throughout the road trip is essential so you don’t lose energy. Also, having another drink besides water, like a pop, coffee, or energy drink, will help, giving you options during the trip.
Another simple one is to wear comfy clothes during the trip. Switching out your jeans for sweatpants would be the best choice. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable in the car for hours and have nothing to change into. I always like to wear sweatpants and a t-shirt; it is a safe route since it can get hot in the car with the sun shining in, so a sweatshirt isn’t the best move sometimes.
Hopefully, these are fun tips and tricks for your road trip this holiday season. These tips can be helpful, even if it is a one-hour or ten-hour trip. Try them out on your next road trip adventure, and let me know what podcast you listen to; I am always searching for a new one!
